Reducing generational conflict and leveraging diversity
Olive Strachan MBE – author, consultant and long standing member of our facilitator community – conducted some research and led TetraMap regional meet up events to focus on a topic that affects all workplaces around the globe: engaging multiple generations.
Huge thanks to Olive for, yes, her amazing energy AND for sharing insights from her research. Those included the challenges facing organisations of today in general, those that leaders face with leading and managing the five generations and the different strategies organisations are using to create inclusive cultures.
So how can TetraMap help us to embrace diversity across the generations? Olive shared these tips:
- Help leaders to tailor their approach to each team member
- Show leaders how to adjust their language, tone and methods of communication to resonate with each preference
- Provide insights into potential sources of conflict with resources for resolving it
- Facilitate team building opportunities
- Help leaders to identify their own elemental preferences and understand how these influence their leadership style.
Olive’s experience of applying tools like the TetraMap of Leadership and Why are We Like That? to encourage people to embrace generational diversity gave attendees lots of ideas for their own application.
